A&S Night – German Medieval Smocking

September 1 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Taught by Lady Freydis zum Ainkurn with support from HE Greta
German medieval and Renaissance smocking—more accurately called pleatwork embroidery or pleat-framing—is a technique used to gather fabric fullness on collars, cut, and aprons of traditional garments like the hemd (chemise). It controlled stretch and added geometric decoration seen in 15th- and 16th-century German art.
