Oyez, oyez! The time has come for the Barony of Atenveldt to select a new champion of Arts and
Sciences. Are you ready to throw your hat in the ring? If you have ideas to elevate Arts and Sciences
activities in the barony, now is the time to share them. But wait, if you have been working on artistic or
scientific endeavors and want to show them off, here is your opportunity as well.
Join your fellow students of medieval techniques at the
Baronial A&S Championship and Exposition
Wednesday, March 30, 2022
To be held in conjunction with fighter practice.
Rules for competition:
1) In order to participate in the competition for Champion, you must submit a letter of intent to the current
champion and the Baron and Baroness by March 20, 2022. In it, you should provide your name, both
SCA and legal. Follow with a description of your visions of championing Arts and Sciences in the
Barony.
2) Champions must enter in at least three categories. If a single item exemplifies multiple categories, that
is perfectly fine. Examples would be a scroll with both calligraphy and illumination and a garment that
has been augmented with embroidery.
3) Entries can be static, performing, culinary, or expository. Examples of static works would be garb,
paintings, scrolls, scientific instruments or other items that can be displayed. Performance arts would
include song, dance, musical instruments, story-telling and poetry. If the work is original, it is eligible in
both written and performance categories. Culinary entries include both food and drink. Expository works
are research papers which should follow collegiate standards.
Important note: Covid restrictions still apply to communal dishes. If you intend to enter food or
drink items, please contact the current champion for additional information before you create the
entry.
4) Extensive documentation is not required, but entrants should be prepared to tell the Baron and Baroness
basic information about the item; When and where was it used? What materials were used in period?
What materials did you use and why?
From all participants, the Baron and Baroness will select individual entries for first, second and third
place. From declared competitors for Champion, they will select the next Baronial Champion. There will
also be a Populace Choice Award.
Winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to contact me. No calls after 10:00 P.M., please.
