SUMMARY:Dance Workshop: Introduction to Medieval Period Dance
DESCRIPTION:Join the Shire of Burning Sands Saturday\, June 13th\, 2026\, 1pm at the Yuma Main Library for a hands-on introduction to medieval period dance where we will learn dances of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. This workshop is designed for absolute beginners and experienced dancers alike and will be taught by Kenjin of the Mountains of Elsrum\, a local chapter of Amtgard. \nWhat will be covered: \n\nBasic Footwork: Learn the foundational steps used in renaissance and medieval period dance.\nSocial Dances: We will walk through popular favorites like the Korobushka and a few other English Country dances.\nCourtly Grace: Discover the difference between high-energy folk dances and formal courtly movement.\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\nClothing: Period garb is strongly encouraged if you have it. However\, comfortable\, modern clothing and flat shoes (sneakers or jazz shoes) are welcome if you don’t\, too.\nWater: Stay hydrated!\n\nCost: This event is free and open to the public. Otherwise we look forward to seeing you there! \nWhat are IKAC Royal Rounds? \nIKAC stands for the Inter-Kingdom Archery Competition in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). It is a year-long\, international target archery tournament where participants from all SCA kingdoms compete to represent their region in various divisions\, including period and open archery.\n\nTo qualify for and participate in the IKAC in the Kingdom of Atenveldt\, you must shoot the designated\, officially sanctioned IKAC round under the supervision of a warranted marshal\, with scores submitted between February 1 and December 1. Any SCA archer can participate at official practices or events\, and scores are submitted online via SCA Scores. \n\nDivisions: Includes Seven divisions (four adult\, three youth) covering handbow and crossbow\, with both open and period equipment.\nScoring: Winners are determined by the average of the top three scores from each kingdom.\nNote: Not to be confused with the IKCAC (Inter-Kingdom Combat Archery Competition)\, which focuses on combat-oriented shooting. \n\nFor more information\, visit the IKAC website. SUMMARY:Fighter Practice
DESCRIPTION:NOTICE: Location change for THIS practice only\, see below. \nThere will be no Armored Combat\, only Rapier fighter practice will be held 8am-10am at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex Archery Range in Yuma\, AZ. This will be held alongside archery practice for those interested in either activity!  Shade will be available but more is always welcome if you got it! For notices of cancellation please check our calendar and our Facebook group! \nIf you are interested in combat sports and martial arts\, come give it a try! We have loaner gear available\, just let us know you are interested by emailing our marshal at marshal@burningsands.atenveldt.org or posting to our Facebook group! Note you will want to bring your own hard-shelled sports cup (groin protection namely for males) and maybe wear long sleeved clothing. Otherwise\, we have everything else you need\, you just have to show up! \nYou must be 16 and older to participate and must sign a waiver for liability purposes at every practice unless you are a paid member and authorized to fight in the SCA. Participants under 18 years old must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign a waiver and consent form. \nWhat to expect your first time at a fighter practice:\nWe will go over all safety requirements and procedures before having you (or your parent/legal guardian) sign a waiver. Then we will help you get armored up from our loaners appropriate for armored combat or rapier\, depending on your expressed interest. We then will do an armor inspection to make sure your armor meets minimum requirements and is safe. Next\, we will help calibrate\, which involves delivering a blow to your person to help you understand the varying degrees of force used\, i.e. what is considered light\, good\, and excessive. We will go over some basic rules including what striking areas are legal or not. Next\, we will go over and practice some basic stances and techniques to make sure you can safely deliver a blow and defend yourself. Finally\, we let you have a go at it and see what you can do! Many first timers struggle with having an idea in there head of what is going to happen and executing that idea the way they pictured it. More often than not it almost never works out the way you imagined it\, and that is okay! That shouldn’t discourage you from trying something that sounds cool in your head\, sometimes it works out and can surprise even the most seasoned of fighters! We are all students and teachers here\, even you\, and we learn the most when we humble ourselves to those facts. \nFor more information on safety and rules\, please refer to the SCA Armored Combat (Rattan) Marshals Handbook and/or Atenveldt Rapier Handbook found in the Kingdom Document Library. \n

DESCRIPTION:We will be having Archery Practice 8am-10am\, March 21\, 2026\, Saturday at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex Archery Range. Even though shade will be provided\, please be sure to bring water and sunscreen! \nNewcomers: We will have loaner gear available for your use. Participants are required to wear closed-toed shoes.
